So Glenn died last night as we expected he would. One student made a little casket and grave marker and a third of the class shared their odes to a dragonfly today after lunch. We walked in line to get one last look at Glenn to the soft choral sound of John Tavener's Funeral Canticle. Tomorrow is the burial. Some of the poems follow with more to come in tomorrow's post.
Ode to a Dragonfly
O, thou one who flew above our heads
With thy long wings
and thy beautiful eyes,
colors, patterns, and so on,
So accurate with your life
Cannot take credit for your wonderful deeds.

Ode to a Dragonfly
O, thou 4-winged creature
With the green body and huge eyes,
Even though you are one inch long
You are still the best dragonfly ever.
Rest in peace.

Glenn Franklin Drago
There once was a dragonfly
Who was so green,
He was a winged little creature,
He flew until he could fly no more,
Now he is dead in a place called Heaven
We will miss him, oh yes, we will.
Goodbye, old friend.

To: Glenn F. Drago
Glenn, I didn't know you well,
but from the stories I've heard
you were very great and friendly.
Mr. Eisman said he found you
lying on your back struggling to get up
he picked you up and put you under his wing
(no pun intended).
From the short five or six hours that I knew you,
you were a great dragonfly.
Your family should be proud.
you are in all of our hearts.
May you rest in peace.

Ode to Dragonfly
O, thou beautiful dragonfly,
Thy wings are as elegant as the sky.
Thou once soared over the vast lakes.
You will always be in our favor.
